Pending Member Subscriptions

When a subscriber attempts to join the list, the list sends a confirmation message. This marks the subscription as pending until either the user confirms per the instructions in the message, or the pending subscription expires. However, the expiration time is deliberately very long, and if the confirmation message is lost or deleted this can leave the subscriber stuck in a pending state. Further attempts to subscribe the same email address will fail due to the pending subscription.

This can be fixed in through the list administration UI. The "Confirmation" section of the Moderation Queue will list pending subscribers, which can then be manually deleted as shown below.

Once the pending subscription is deleted, the subscription process can then be re-initiated.
